MRS. BARROW
You know, Michael only joined the National Guard so they could have a little extra cash. You know... buy that house everyone dreams of -- a new car -- that swing set for his daughter...
(choked with emotion)
But after they lost the house while he was over there, and his wife moved back in with her parents, he came here.
Sonny's mother stops as she becomes choked with emotion.
MRS. BARROW (CONT'D)
He would get so depressed. He'd break things up. Pound the walls. I was afraid he might do something to himself,
MRS. BARROW (CONT'D)
to be truthful. Especially when it rained.
SONNY'S BROTHER'S GARAGE
Cluttered with stuff: four motorbikes in various conditions -- from almost new to badly battered, a pickup truck on blocks, rusting toys, broken furniture, etc...
ON THE CUT, BILL BARROW: 46, slim fair complexion, points toward a battered motorbike.
BILL
And that's one of the dozen bikes he trashed after coming home.

What'd he hit, a steamroller?
BILL
(laughs)
Anything in his way. He was somethin' else when he got back from Afghanistan and his wife left him. Seemed like every other day I was goin' out someplace to haul the motorcycle and him back in, or going to the hospital to pick him up. It was like he was so used to being in danger, that he couldn't relax in a safe society.
