"I'm Mad As Hell" Manifesto

dreamstime_2687134People will act when it is important, or at the lowest level, when it is in their self interest.  I want to incite the entire nation to action, but that's more then we can bite off.  But we sure as hell can start with the Vets.  Everyone gives Vets the proper lip service... "oh yeah, they deserve something... our respect
our trust, whatever..." but never specifics. I say we start naming specifics.  Things the President could grant.

Things he could be shamed into granting.

And then use that foothold for a national referendum in the next presidential election.  Things on the ballot box that Wall Street would hate, the banks would hate, even the politicians would hate... but that the people will embrace.

Here's My "I'm Mad As Hell" Manifesto For Veterans and Active-Duty Soldiers

  1. A Veteran's Bank.  A private, possibly non-profit bank designed for Veterans - your needs; meaning accessible anywhere, committed to preserving your nest egg and income, and the house you come home to.  You are 25 million strong... 25-million veterans with a voice and a pocketbook — not bad.  One thing this unique Main Street bank can do is to buy up all the toxic mortages held by Veterans; then readjust their interest rates to reflect market value, and also freeze them when you're on active duty.

  2. A Veteran's Credit Card with an interest rate only 5% above Prime. (This credit control is the underlying platform for the ultimate goal of returning credit loans to rates manged so they rise no highter than 18% — a law that was repealed in1978; no credit card should have a credit rate higher than that 18%, and bank charging more than that will be convicted of usery).

  3. Veteran loans at just above the Prime Rate. But by having a Veterans bank owned by vets and run by vets, the equity will always be there to care for soldiers before fattening up executives. That said, such loans and deposits would also be very profitable given the shear number of possible customers, namely those 25 million vets, who if anything else, are loyal.

It's about action... a call to arms.  not guns, but the ballot... the march... the email and letter writting campaign. And a movie to explain why this is so important to the men and women protecting our country.

A Unique Grass-Roots Approach To Fundraising

We have a film called Freeze Frame that deals with the fact that more Vietnam Vets committed suicide since coming home then were killed in action.

Unfortunately, those who do not learn from history are condemned to repeat it, and thus we are learning that over the seven years since the fall of Saddam Hussein, more Iraq vets are coming home with serious mental health problems that might ultimately lead them to take their own lives.

The number of potential suicides might be larger than the number of people who lost their lives while fighting. It is a different era, more immediate, more "in your face", where soldiers can keep track of every event happening at home, even as they are struggling with a different, more intimate and brutal conflict in the field. And the military command won't acknowledge the real stress of this situation but it is like a powder keg ready to explode. Freeze Frame is about that tipping point, that match that might cause the explosion in one Iraq Vet and the humanity of veterans of two eras it illuminates.

We know the subject might be contravertial. We know it is not a "commercial" subject. Yet, it does resonate. A short five-minute piece was posted on Youtube (search on  "Ben Browder, Confession Of An Iraq Vett" or watch it on our site). The response was and continues to be overwhelming. The comments to Ben's soliloquy come from not just his fans, but from a broad swath of Americans.

But the purpose of making the film is deeper than informing the nation about the sad state of military mental health programs. We are changing paradigms on how funds are raised to make a movie and what is done with the earnings from a film. None of what we are trying here has been done before. What we intend to do is form a single-purpose, not-for-profit, company for this film, and donate the gross producer profits to Veteran organizations. We hope to raise the production budget from the Million Pixel Pledge page accessible from our top menu. In dedicating a block of pixels to the memory of a fallen soldier, you are also raising money for our living vets and teaching the public about their situation.

We are doing a budget now. All donations will be held in escrow until the budget is released.  Donors will be given the chance to dedicate their gift to a soldier who fell in the line of duty in any American conflict, from the Civil War to today's wars. If you don't know of a soldier, tell us of a war and we'll add a dedication. Anyone who makes a donation can download a signed, numbered, pdf of the script. Once the budget of the film is met by the donations, the dedications will be added to a Wall Of Honor and be compiled into the "one sheet" (advertising sheet) for the film. This movie poster will also be made available to everyone who helped raise the budget for the film, with gross producer profits going to veteran organizations. Once the budget is raised, we would seek a major film studio for distribution. The film will star Ben Browder of Stargate and Farscape fame, and other very important feature film stars.

We were inspired to make this grass roots effort for funding the film, by the Obama for president campaign.  If President Obama’s Herculian effort proved anything, it was that the will of the people can not be ignored.  With more vets killing themselves from Iraq and Afghanistan then are being killed in combat, only the will of the people to get this story told, can trump Hollywood’s will to chase the buck.

A Story that needs to be told

Hi Mr. McCord,

I an a fan of Ben Browders from Farsacpe & Stargate SG1 and had the pleasure of meeting him in Chicago last August at a convention. This story needs to be told for all the soldiers of all the wars. I like Ben's idea that this is not pro war or anti war, its about how war can destroy people and their families and we as a people need to pay attention. I think fans of Ben's would be interested in contributing money to this project, I know I would. I am not rich, I live pay to pay check, but this film needs to be made and for all the fans out there who have any amount they can send in could get this made. It's worth a try.
