Confession Of An Iraq War Vet

So, Why Make "Freeze Frame"? What's A Movie To Do With Helping Vets?

SLicon06There is nothing stronger than a picture, a story, music, and the artistry of actors, a script that dazzles, direction that keeps us on the edge of our seats while making us think, makes us uncomfortable. Movies sell ideas better than anything on the Internet. And the powerful idea that Jonas and Galit McCord want to sell is that Veterans deserve our active help. Freeze Frame contains the message: soldiers are people who dedicate their lives to protect our country while their lives fall apart around them. We have the responsibility to hold them up while they do their jobs.

Support the making of Freeze Frame and you support educating the public so that just maybe we can ensure that the mental and physical health of vets will gain protection one act at a time.

Production Status

The producers have re-scheduled "Freeze Frame" to begin production in the Fall of 2010 pending cast availability.

"I'm Mad As Hell" Manifesto

dreamstime_2687134People will act when it is important, or at the lowest level, when it is in their self interest.  I want to incite the entire nation to action, but that's more then we can bite off.  But we sure as hell can start with the Vets.  Everyone gives Vets the proper lip service... "oh yeah, they deserve something... our respect
our trust, whatever..." but never specifics. I say we start naming specifics.  Things the President could grant.

Things he could be shamed into granting.

And then use that foothold for a national referendum in the next presidential election.  Things on the ballot box that Wall Street would hate, the banks would hate, even the politicians would hate... but that the people will embrace.

Here's My "I'm Mad As Hell" Manifesto For Veterans and Active-Duty Soldiers

  1. A Veteran's Bank.  A private, possibly non-profit bank designed for Veterans - your needs; meaning accessible anywhere, committed to preserving your nest egg and income, and the house you come home to.  You are 25 million strong... 25-million veterans with a voice and a pocketbook — not bad.  One thing this unique Main Street bank can do is to buy up all the toxic mortages held by Veterans; then readjust their interest rates to reflect market value, and also freeze them when you're on active duty.

  2. A Veteran's Credit Card with an interest rate only 5% above Prime. (This credit control is the underlying platform for the ultimate goal of returning credit loans to rates manged so they rise no highter than 18% — a law that was repealed in1978; no credit card should have a credit rate higher than that 18%, and bank charging more than that will be convicted of usery).

  3. Veteran loans at just above the Prime Rate. But by having a Veterans bank owned by vets and run by vets, the equity will always be there to care for soldiers before fattening up executives. That said, such loans and deposits would also be very profitable given the shear number of possible customers, namely those 25 million vets, who if anything else, are loyal.

It's about action... a call to arms.  not guns, but the ballot... the march... the email and letter writting campaign. And a movie to explain why this is so important to the men and women protecting our country.

thumb_footprintsI want to personally thank the Farscape fans who took time out of their schedules to meet with Jonas McCord, Galit McCord, and Ben Browder to tell their stories about PTSD. Thank you:

  • Demeter58
  • UCSBdad (Don Vorleone)
  • SylvreWolfe (who helped plan and arrange the meeting)
  • Domino
  • Terri
  • Mark (who organized the meeting and helped facilitate)
  • Sprite Lady

It is difficult to share something so personal as the diagnosis and treatment of a mental health issue. Your bravery astounds me. And I'm honored to know each of you.

Thank you also to Jonas, Galit, and Ben for taking time out of your hecktic weekend to come to the LAX Marriott to meet with these veterans and discuss the current treatment of active duty and veteran soldiers.

I'm still sorry you couldn't make it Rita. I know how much work you put into it, far more than you are giving me credit for. Which, is way too much credit on my part. You made this happen, so take some credit for yourself.

I want to thank Jonas, Galit and Ben for taking an interest in what we had to say and being there. One of my big gripes about Hollywood, which I think Ben heard regularly this weekend, was the lack of interest the movie makers take in the veterans before they make these movies.
And if any one of them have anything else they want to ask, please feel free. It isn't face to face *Ben*, but I can try to answer the best I can, and as honestly as possible.
